English Training / I have a pen – Who is this guy?
“I have a pen. I have an apple. Apple-pen!
I have a pen. I have pineapple. Pineapple-pen!
Apple-pen. Pineapple-pen. Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen.”
Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen (PPAP for short) was performed by DJ Piko-Taro, a fictional character played by Japanese entertainer Kazuhiko Kosaka. In an attempt to explain how the song came about, Kosaka tweeted out: “When I was making this music with play, I was singing all too soon.”
Kosaka first introduced the character Piko-Taro during his live standup performances. It was so popular that he decided to develop the character even further and eventually uploaded PPAP to YouTube. The video has proven so successful that Kosaka (AKA Piko-Taro) decided to upload a tutorial explaining how to do the dance.
